GREENER
More than ever we are also going green at Wildtrails. It’s natural that we should give Mother Nature a helping hand.
What are we up to? Read more about our initiatives:
**Our 64 charging stations are available at our public car park in Jupille/Rendeux (between La-Roche-en-Ardenne and Durbuy) to recharge your hybrid or electric vehicles.
Our stations offer a power of up to 22 kW each and accept type 2 plugs.
**In addition to our existing CSR mindset, Wildtrails will also promote activities dedicated to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), and give guests the chance to add a greener and social touch to their teambuilding.
For example, contributing to the further planting of a nature reserve, clearing up litter (together with Natuur & Bos, and its Walloon counterpart DNF), and building & installing nesting boxes (e.g. for kestrels). You can already see some lovely examples in local municipalities and at the KUL, not to mention in the homes of hundreds of Wildtrails guests.
By the way, did you know that Wildtrails cares for its own nature reserve and bird-watching hut? Plus, an earlier nature reserve has recently become home to a pair of beavers. When planning our activities, we naturally take care not to disturb them.
Social activities are also possible. For example, with one group of guests we painted a refugee shelter, as well as repairing their bicycles.
Bushcrafting is new on the list of green activities, aimed at learning more about nature. Learn how to make your own fire, ’interpret’ nature and build your own shelter. Go for a walk and gather food from nature’s garden *, and, if you’re feeling adventurous, cook a meal with the ingredients you find.(*with respect for nature)
**We have promised to plant a tree for every company that visits us. In 2022, we welcomed 364 companies. So that’s 364 new trees. And this year we aim for at least as many, and hopefully even more.
**Less waste
At the end of 2022, we installed Aqualex water fountains in our buildings, offering both still and sparkling water. So, while reducing our consumption of plastic bottles by about 65,000 (!), you enjoy delicious and pure water from a source in the Ardennes.
When it comes to catering, we are investigating other ways to reduce our use of plastic. We are looking carefully at our suppliers and their packaging. As usual, we are keen to keep the chain as short as possible, i.e. with maximum local sourcing. As you know, we already press our own apple juice and our bees are busy producing delicious honey. We’ll naturally be continuing these efforts.
To produce less waste we’ll also be doing our best to reuse old materials. So, if you participate in the soap box race, you’ll build a soapbox with wood that is recycled & recovered from one of our sites. How’s that for a win-win?
**Natural energy: we are investing in solar panels, and when you put your feet up at one of our fireplaces, our high-yield boilers will be working hard to heat the water for your shower.
**We are reducing water consumption by running our toilets on rainwater.
Our green list is a long one, but we’re not finished yet. Do you have any ideas? We’d love to hear your thoughts on other things that we could still improve.
